A Novel Approach to Team-Building and Industry Showcasing
Overview:
The competition will be held annually and will consist of three rounds: Budsmanship, Choreography, and Product Management. The competition will be open to all professional and certified Budtenders in the United States.
Round 1: Budsmanship
In this round, the Budtenders’ ability to understand and meet the needs of their customers will be tested. The competition will involve scenarios where the Budtenders have to deal with difficult customers or unusual requests. Other formats would include sudden input of new or difficult information, requirements, or surprises to display the Budtender’s prowess on the fly. The Budtenders will be judged on their ability to provide excellent customer service while also ensuring that the customer’s needs are met.
Round 2: Choreography
In this round, the Budtenders’ ability to work efficiently and professionally while serving customers will be tested. The competition will involve timed challenges where the Budtenders have to serve a certain number of customers within a specific time frame. The Budtenders will be judged on their speed, accuracy, and professionalism. Choreography consists of the Budtenders physical movements, efficiency in determining product-customer matching, and effectiveness with POS, among other elements.
Round 3: Product Management
In this round, the Budtenders’ knowledge of different products and their ability to recommend effective products to customers based on their needs will be tested. The competition will involve quizzes or challenges where the Budtenders have to identify different strains or products based on their characteristics. The Budtenders will be judged on their knowledge, accuracy, and ability to recommend products that meet the customer’s needs.
Other Classes by Which One Can Challenge or Be Challenged
In addition to the three rounds mentioned above, there could be other classes by which one can challenge or be challenged. For example:
- Cannabis Pairing: This class would test the Budtenders’ ability to pair different strains with different foods or drinks. The competition could involve scenarios where the Budtenders have to suggest a strain that would go well with a particular dish or drink.
- Cannabis Cultivation: This class would test the Budtenders’ knowledge of cannabis cultivation techniques. The competition could involve quizzes or challenges where the Budtenders have to identify different strains or other characteristics based on growing conditions and methodologies.
- Cannabis Extraction: This class would test the Budtenders’ knowledge of cannabis extraction techniques. The competition could involve quizzes or challenges where the Budtenders have to identify different types of extracts based on their characteristics, manufacturing methods, and applications.
Standardized Ranking System
To rank the expertise of the Budtenders, a standardized ranking system could be devised based on their performance in each round of the competition. For example:
- Gold: Awarded to those who score above 90% in all rounds.
- Silver: Awarded to those who score between 80% and 90% in all rounds.
- Bronze: Awarded to those who score between 70% and 80% in all rounds.
- Honorable Mention: Awarded to those who score between 60% and 70% in all rounds.
These rankings could be used by dispensaries or other cannabis-related businesses as markers of expertise when hiring new staff or promoting existing staff.
