Navigating the Bud Room: A Guide to Customer Etiquette at the Dispo

In the ever-evolving world of cannabis dispensaries, the “bud room” or “budfloor” is where customers have the opportunity to explore and purchase a variety of cannabis products. Just like any other retail environment, there are etiquettes to follow to ensure a smooth and pleasant experience for both customers and budtenders. Whether you’re a seasoned cannabis enthusiast or a first-time visitor, here’s a comprehensive guide to customer etiquette in the bud room:

Do Your Homework:
Before stepping into the bud room, take the time to research the dispensary’s menu and policies. Understanding the available products and their effects can help you make informed decisions and save time during your visit. Be aware that inquiring directly with your Budtender rather than a menu is preferred. Menus can be wrong or need updating, and consumers should account for this possibility. Most dispensaries have their menus available online, along with detailed descriptions of strains and products. But nothing replaces the wisdom of a good Budtender.

Respect the Queue:
Dispensaries can get busy, and there may be a line of customers waiting their turn. Be patient and wait your turn in an orderly fashion. Avoid cutting in line or being overly pushy; everyone is there for the same purpose – to make a purchase. In larger dispensaries where there may be anywhere from 5-20 Budtenders on the floor, you’re essentially trading personalized experience for a quick and efficient one. Conversely, in smaller dispos, you’ll have the chance to develop rapport with your Budtender, helping them make the best and most well-informed decisions for your needs.

Be Mindful of Personal Space:
Maintaining a respectful distance from other customers and budtenders is crucial, especially in today’s post-COVID world. Give people space to browse and ask questions without feeling crowded. In times of social distancing, respect others right to feel secure within reason, and be sure to adhere to any guidelines provided by the dispensary. They’re for all our benefit!

Ask Questions Politely:
Budtenders are there to help you and provide information about the products. Don’t hesitate to ask questions, but do so in a polite and respectful manner. Avoid interrupting conversations and be patient if the budtender is assisting another customer. Very important: DO NOT try and assist the Budtender in assisting another customer! Respect the customers privacy to the greatest extent possible, and remember that good Budtenders are professionals, trained to understand certain key pieces of information to which you may not be privy.

Handle Products with Care:
When inspecting cannabis products, handle them with care. Be gentle when examining flower buds, and use provided tools for picking up concentrates or edibles. Avoid touching products unnecessarily to maintain hygiene and product integrity. Important: Please, do not press on, squeeze, or smash flower to examine it, this utterly disrespectful behavior ruins the experience for the next person!

Be Mindful of Time:
Dispensaries often have busy periods, and budtenders may need to assist other customers. Try to keep your visit concise and efficient. If you have more extensive questions or need recommendations, consider making an appointment or returning during a less busy time. In smaller clubs, you can let the person behind you go ahead of you until it calms down for your Budtender.

If you need to make a phone call, typically smaller dispensaries are ok with it, larger ones may or may not be. Regardless, just use common courtesy.

Abide by Dispensary Rules:
Every dispensary has its own set of rules and regulations. These can include restrictions on the number of products you can purchase, payment methods accepted, and even consumption guidelines. Familiarize yourself with these rules and follow them accordingly.

Don’t Haggle Over Prices:
While some dispensaries may offer discounts or promotions, haggling over prices is generally not considered acceptable. The prices are typically set, and budtenders have no control over them. If you have concerns about pricing, address them with management or consult the dispensary’s website for current deals.

By following these guidelines for customer etiquette in the bud room, you can ensure a positive experience for yourself and those around you. Remember that dispensaries aim to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all customers, and your cooperation in adhering to these etiquettes contributes to that goal. Enjoy your cannabis shopping responsibly and respectfully.
